"April 1, 2021

On the Morning of April 1st, 2021, Raymond Anthony Breckner passed away at the age of 72.

He will be missed by his wife, Wendy, and children Katie (Craig), Natalie, Kyle (Meagan), & Nairne. He will also be missed by his 6 grandchildren, whom he adored.

He is survived by his four sisters; Marie, Donna, Dorothy, Theresa & brother David. Predeceased by brother Lawrence.

Raymond was born to Anthony & Phyllis Breckner in 1948. He grew up in Richmond, BC, where he developed a keen interest in all things mechanical, especially cars; some of his favourites were his red 55 Chev, blue 67 El Camino, and glen green 1965 Corvette Stingray.

He went on to become an entrepreneur & business man, building Innovac Technology, known for the TransVac fish pump.

The family later moved to the Hazelmere valley, where he continued with his mechanical interests.

After his children were grown, Raymond & Wendy moved to a small acreage in Langley, where he was still developing, and innovating.

He always had time for his kids, and was infamous for his “pearls of wisdom”.

He will be missed."

"Mr. Charles Spriggs

Death of a Downley Farmer

(An Appreciation)

Our old friend Mr. Charles Spriggs has
passed on, and it seems almost
incredible. Talking to him at the top of
the hill only a few days ago, I certainly
noted that he had lost a good deal of his
old "unmistakable vigour", yet there
seemed to be signs that we should have
him in our midst for some years yet to
emjoy his well-earned retirement. But he
has gone, and he will be greatly missed.
No more shall we see the familiar figure
who lived beyond the allotted span of
three score and ten years at the farm-
stead - just beyond the crest of the hill.
By his death we have lost a sincere
friend, in fact it is doubtful whether any
man could have been more respected by
those with whom he came into close
touch, either in his business as a farmer,
or in his private life.
A further token of the esteem in which
he was held was shown by the beautiful
floral tributes that were sent.
There ae many things worthy of re-
cord in the long life of our departed
neighbour; many little acts of kindness
unnoticed by the passer by, little items
of sympathetic sincerity of the right
kind, unknown, save to the giver and to
the recipient. A Vice-President of the
Cricket and Football Clubs, Mr. Charles
Spriggs solved the Open Spaces problem
for the young men of our football club
by allowing them the free use of several
spacious meadows, a kindness that has
been greatly appreciated for many years
by the young people of our village. Dur-
ing his younger days Mr. Spriggs was a
prominent member of the village cricket
club, and was fond of talking about the
games of over fifty years ago.
Mr. Charles Spriggs was associated
with our church at Downley and has
been a generous subscriber, etc., toward
the funds of the proposed new church.
He was the oldest tenant farmer on the
West Wycombe Estate, having served
under five landlords, and his tenancy in
the ordinary way would have expired
next Michaelmas.
The passing years bring to us many
changes, but we shall always treasure
in our hearts the memory of our old
friend and neighbour - Charles Spriggs.

Funeral at West Wycombe

The funeral of the late Mr. Charles
Spriggs, whose death from pneumonia,
after a few days illness, occurred on
April 7th, took place at West Wycombe,
on Tuesday afternoon. The cortege left
deceased's residence Plomer Hill Farm,
at 2 o'clock, and arrived at the church
of St. Lawrence, West Wycombe, an hour
later. Taking into account the inclement
weather, which prevented many from
attending, ther was a large and repre-
sentative gathering of relatives, farming
associates, and others, to pay their last
tribute of respect. The impressive ser- vice was conducted by the Rev. H. Pickles
(Vicar of West Wycombe), assisted by the
Rev. R. Townsend (a former curate), and
the Rev. L.H. Lahe (curate at Downley).
By special desire, two of deceased's
favourite hymns (unaccompanied) were
sung - "A Few More Years Shall Roll", and
"Brief Life is Here Our Portion". During
the service the Rev. H. Pickles de-
livered an appropriate address, during
which he enlarged on the quiet and un-
assuming life of deceased and his readi-
ness at all times to assist others and any
needy cause in an unostentatious manner.
The coffin of polished elm, with brass
furniture bore the inscription "Charles
Spriggs. Died 7th April, 1928. Aged 75
