"Death of Mr. C. Spriggs - This parish has this
week sustained a severe loss by the removal by death
of Mr. Charles Spriggs, of Plomer Hill, which took
place at his residence on Monday morning, after a short
illness. The cause of death was bronchitis; the
deceased was out as lately as Tuesday week. The
deceased was Chairman of the School Board, one of
the vice-presidents of the Horticultural Society, and
surveyor, and has at various times held almost every
public office in parochial matters with credit to him-
self and to the satisfaction of the parish generally. He
was a most zealous and painstaking officer in all the
duties he undertook, and will be greatly missed at the
School Board, and also at the Horticultural Society's
meetings, in the welfare of which he took an especial
interest, particularly the Poultry Show in connection
with the above, in the formation of which he was one
of the most active promoters. The deceased had for
some years been a member of the Board of Guardians,
and only retired from the office a few weeks ago. He
was an excellent Guardian, and rendered useful and
intelligent service during his occupation of the post.
He was closely connected with the Wesleyan body
at Downley, in fact, in every useful society or move-
ment affecting the parish generally. He was always
ready to assist, and from his large experience and sound
judgement his advice was always acceptable.
We may say of him that he was a good
citizen and a kind neighbour. The funeral is
arranged to take place on Friday (to-day) at West
Wycombe Church at 5 o'clock, the procession starting
from deceased's residence at four."4Newspaper - Bucks Free Press, Friday May 13th, 1887.
At a meeting of the Poultry Show Committee on
"WEST WYCOMBE
Monday the following resolution was unanimously
agreed to: - "That this Committee record an expres-
sion of their sorrow at the death of their colleague, Mr.
Charles Spriggs, to whose suggestion the establishment
of a Poultry Show in connection with the West
Wycombe Horticultural Society was due, and whose
untiring exertions in its behalf ensured so much of its
success, and instruct the Secretary to communicate
this resolution to the family of the late Mr. Spriggs". THE LATE MR. C. SPRIGGS - The funeral of the
above gentleman took place on Friday last at West
Wycombe, and was attended by a considerable number
of his late colleagues on the School Board, some of
those with whom he had long been connected in
various public offices, and several farmers of the parish.
The remains were enclosed in a coffin of polished oak,
and conveyed in an open car to the church, a number
of choice wreaths and crosses being contributed by
members of the family and friends of the deceased.
The Vicar officiated, and at the conclusion of the
service a muffled peal was rung on the bells, the de-
ceased having been a suscriber to the Bellringers
Association. The funeral arrangements were efficiently
carried out by Mr. Joseph Steevans of High Wycombe."5Will of Charles Spriggs.

She was well known and highly respected in the town, and the deepest sympathy is felt towards the two sons and eight daughters who are left to mourn their loss. Yesterday (Thursday) afternoon the remains of the deceased were laid to rest in the High Wycombe Cemetery, the funeral service, both in the Parish Church and at the graveside, being conducted by the Vicar (Rev. E.D. Shaw). The mourners present were: Mr. A. Barton, son; Messrs. Stanley Spriggs and Arthur Spriggs, grandsons; Thomas Spriggs, Charles F. Brunsden (Windsor), and J. Suckling (Romford), sons in law; William Vevers and W. Vevers (Maidenhead), nephews; Evans, brother in law, and Charles Evans.
