"OBITUARY
SERGEANT A. M. MOON, The death occurred at his late residence in Home Road, Grey Lynn, on Friday evening, of Sergeant Alfred Morton Moon, in his 7lst year. Deceased was the first police sergeant stationed at Whangarei, having been promoted to that rank on May 1, 1899, upon transfer to this district. He joined the police force in 1871 and was for many years stationed at Hunterville before coming to Whangarei. When Sergeant Moon, retired he was succeeded by Sergeant Drake, who after four years' service died in Whangarei, and was succeeded by Senior-Sergeant F. A. Moore. The late Sergeant Moon was the father of Mrs Tom Conaghan of Whangarei, and had been ailling for some time prior to his demise.".4Civil Registration, Marriage - New Zealand, Marriage 1906; Reg.
