"WEDDINGS - The Sacred Heart Church, Hastings, was beautifully decorated by the Sisters of St. Joseph's Convent for the occasion of the wedding of Mona Marie (Molly) Garrett, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Garrett, Napier, and Herbert James, eldest son of Mrs. Williams, and the late Mr. McCormack, Gisborne. The ceremony, which took place in the afternoon, was performed by the Rev. Father McDonald. The bride, who entered the church with her brother-in-law, Mr. A. Taylor, wore a trained gown of ivory embossed satin, the bodice being finished with a heart shaped neckline. Her veil of tulle embroidered with silk was held in place with a halo of lilies and orange blossom, and she carried a bouquet of pink and white lilies, cyclamen, and maidenhair fern. The three bridesmaids who attended the bride were the Misses Joan Taylor, Hastings (chief), Joy Hallwell, Patoka, both nieces of the bride, and the bridegroom's stepsister, Joyce Williams, Gisborne. The bridesmaids' frocks were very colourful, being of pink, green and mauve respectively. Each frock of sheer georgette worn over taffeta was of Victorian design with a soft full skirt, the bodice being finished at the neckline wtih a sweetheart decollette. A row of small crystal buttons from neckline to waist trimmed the back of each frock, which had puffed sleeves. Silver shoes were worn, and each maid wore a crinoline hat to match her frock and carried a beautiful bouquet of rainbow colourings. The small flower girl, Hazel Taylor, a niece of the bride, wore a dainty little frock of blue stiffened net over satin, trimmed with pink and blue rosebuds and a pink sach. Through her hair was threaded a pink ribbon and she carried a basket of pink and blue flowers and fern. Mr. T. Williams, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr. Ralph Taylor, Hastings, bride's nephew, and Jack McCormack, the groom's brother, were groomsmen. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold watch, to each bridesmaid a signet ring, and to the flower girl a gold bangle. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the United Hall, in Lyndon Road, Hastings, where Mrs. A. Taylor, sister of the bride, received the guests, assisted by the bridegrooms' mother, Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Taylor wore a smart navy costume trimmed with white, a white felt hat and matching accessories. Mrs. Williams chose a tailored brown costume with matching hat, gloves and bag. When the bride and bridegroom later left by service car for Palmerston North, Mrs. McCormack travelled in an ensemble of blue spun silk with a floral bodice and blue bolero under a brown Russian coat. She wore a brown hat with an eyeveil and gloves and shoes to match. Mr. and Mrs. McCormack will make their future home in Lower Hutt."

"OBITUARY
MR. WALTER HILL
Mr. Walter Hill, who died in Wellington yesterday, was born in Wellington in 1865. His father took part in the Otago gold.rush. At the age of 10 years the late Mr. Hill entered the employ of Mr. F. R. Johnson in Petone. He was the first boy to deliver the "Evening Post", in the Hutt Vailey. In later years he was in business on his own account on the Hutt Road, and later still was associated with Mr. J. W. Powell in a business in Jackson Street, Petone, and afterwards was for several years an active partner in the carrying firm of McEwen and Carter. In more recent years he was in business in Eastbourne, selling out in 1926, from which date to 1931 he was proprietor of the Tarawera Hotel. Since then he has been living a retired life. -Mr. Hill was intimately associated with most of the early activities of Petone, having witnessed its growth from a bushcovered flat to a prosperous borough. He was one of the early members of the Petone Navals, a member of the Petone District High School committee, secretary of the Petone Band, and from 1902 to 1904 a member of the Petone Borough Council, when Mr. George London was Mayor. Mr. Hill was closely associated with all kinds of sport, being a member of the Petone Cricket Club and later of the Petone Bowling Club. He passed through all the offices of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church, and for many years he was vicar's churchwarden. There were indeed few organisations of a social nature in which he was not interested. He leaves a widow and the following family:—Mr. W. P. Hill, Aramoho, Wanganui; Mr. R. J. Hill, Patrick Street, Petone; Mrs. S. Mabey, Putarino; Mr. F. E. Hill, Napier; and Mrs: G. Alward, Wanganui. Mr. George Hill, of Island Bay, is a brother."
