"DECREES NISI
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.
WELLINGTON, Feb. 13. In the Supreme Court to-day in divorce jurisdiction, Mr Justice Chapman granted decrees nisi in the following cases: Leonard Philip Parker Double v. Edith Mary Double, and James Symons (co-respondent), on the grounds of adultery; George Lee v. Ellen Lee, on grounds of desertion; Ellen Maxfield v. George Edgar Maxfield, on the grounds of desertion; Elsie Mary Heron v. Charles Edward Heron, on grounds of desertion; Agnes Wilson Estall v. Henry William Estall, on grounds of desertion."4Newspaper - New Zealand Truth, Page 6, 25 Feb 1911.
"THE ESTRANGED ESTALLS.
Agnes Wilson Estall, for whom Mr A. L. Herdman appeared, had a pitiful tale to tell. She married Henry William Estall at Wellington, on August 10, 1895, and thereafter lived a hell upon earth. The respondent was a hotel-keeper, and for four years had control of Barrett's Hotel, Lambton quay, Wellington, about March, 1904. During the time he was there he was always under the influence, and, on one occasion, he had the d.t.'s, and had to be locked up m a padded room. On another occasion, when mad with drink, the police had to be summoned, and he was handcuffed. Eventually the brewery took a hand, and he WAS EJECTED FROM THE HOTEL, which he was endeavoring to ruin. The respondent's behavior to his wife was brutal m the extreme ; on many occasions he had struck her, on one occasion he had locked her in a room and threatened her life : while holding a razor to her throat, and he was invariably cruel to her. When he was turned out of the hotel he went to Sydney (N.S.W.) leaving her without means. She then went to some relatives in the United States of America, and came back to Wellington about three years ago, and has since been earning her own living as a milliner. One boy was born of the marriage on June 4, 1896. His Honor coupled with the decree an order for costs on the lowest scale against the respondent — for what it might be worth— and granted the petitioner the interim custody of the child until the decree should be made absolute."
